Christmas baking


Lydia's French class this year held a "Buche De Noel" baking contest this December, and of course Lydia leaped at the opportunity as soon as she heard about it.  When the flyer came home, it included a sample Buche recipe, but Lydia decided that she wanted to locate her own recipe. Here are some photos from the first revision of the cake, including mushrooms and even a Christmas mouse (made of marzipan):





Alas, the mouse and some of the leaves had to be edited out of the final version, since it was supposed to be "nut-free"; not to be deterred, Lydia baked a large collection of meringue mushrooms and put them into place around the cake for a nut-free forest effect.
